D1 Potato Vodka
D1 Potato Vodka
D1 Potato Vodka is a wonderfully smooth vodka made from potatoes, balancing two vastly different worlds to give an intriguing yet rewarding experience on the palate; on the one hand it's buttery, sweet and creamy and on the other it's vegetal, herbaceous and spicy.
The daring character and delicious, creamy smoothness of D1 Potato Vodka are rooted in the careful selection of the finest potatoes. Recognised by the world’s leading bartenders as the ultimate vodka ingredient, D.J. Limbrey Distilling Company has taken the craft of potato vodka to a new level.
We start with a long fermentation before two distinct distillations. During the second of these, the vapours are elevated through a series of seven column stills to a height of 40 metres. As it ascends, our potato spirit passes over 2,000 purification plates, each raising the liquid a little bit closer to vodka perfection.
This meticulous process is controlled with such accuracy that, after blending with crystal clear water, the spirit drawn from the still can be bottled without filtration. This allows D1 Potato Vodka to retain its incredible, velvet-soft mouthfeel and distinguished creamy taste.
We carefully source every part of our product and our uncompromising approach is reflected in the way we produce the liquid. Our potato distillate originates from Germany; we blend and bottle our vodka in Lancashire, using local water. Our caps are manufactured in Italy, the bottles in France and our glass decoration comes from Scotland.
Our bottle is as daringly distinguished as the precious liquid it holds. Fusing cultural extremes, Jacky Tsai’s Stained Glass Skull juxtaposes the Christian tradition of stained glass with pagan symbolism to conjure the spirit of an illuminated Mexican Calavera sugar skull.
The Union Jack is a personal expression of creativity and of being a British owned and operated brand. The result is vodka art: dramatic behind the bar; mesmerizing in the hand.

Potato Vodka FAQ
What Is Potato Vodka?
Potato vodka is a unique type of vodka that is made from potatoes as opposed to the more traditional grains or now more common contemporary bases of corn, grape or milk. Potato vodka has a richer, fuller flavour than grain-based vodkas, and is said to have a more creamy velvet-like mouth feel than its more typical grain counterparts. In Western markets a grain base is the most common base for vodka.
Is Potato Vodka really Poitín?
No is the simple answer. Poitín is typically an Irish moonshine style spirit traditionally distilled from oats, typically malted barley – think of it like a whiskey that never made it into the barrel. Rumoured to have been first distilled in the 6th century monks referred to it as ‘the water of life’! As a further historical note, Columbus didn’t bring the potato back to Europe from the Americas until the 16th century.
Isn’t all Vodka made from Potatoes?
No is the simple answer. Vodka was historically first made from grains like rye or wheat with some claims it was as early as the 8th or 9th century. There are more frequent court records of Vodka in the 14th century forward. By comparison Columbus didn’t bring the potato back to Europe from the Americas until the 16th century.
Does Potato Vodka Have Gluten?
No. Potato Vodka is made from potatoes, which do not contain any gluten. The gluten protein is found in grains, which are more commonly used in other vodkas.
